Episode 8: How I Use AI as a Triathlon Coach and Athlete

How I Use AI as a Triathlon Coach and Athlete

I use AI every single day—as a triathlon coach and as an athlete.

But I do not use every kind of AI for the same job.

In Episode 8 of Coach Erin Says, I explain why I trust TriDot’s FitLogic with the data-driven side of endurance training, where ChatGPT fits into my coaching and training life, and why I believe the best use of AI should make coaching more human, not less.

In This Episode

I talk about:

  • Why I do not ask ChatGPT to write my triathlon training plan
  • Why I trust purpose-built FitLogic AI with the quantitative side of training
  • The difference between the data an AI system can see and the human information an athlete shares with a coach
  • How I use ChatGPT to organize information, communicate more clearly, reflect, and think through coaching
  • How I use AI differently when I am the athlete
  • What parts of coaching I will never outsource to technology
  • Whether AI will eventually replace triathlon coaches

The Big Takeaway

There are things technology can do incredibly well. (Like summarize my podcast from the transcript to help me create this page 😁)

It can analyze data, follow patterns, organize information, and help us make better use of enormous amounts of information.

But coaching is more than numbers.

A coach also needs to know when an athlete is stressed, scared, hurting, losing confidence, juggling too much, or simply needs someone to believe in them.

AI can know your numbers. Your coach should know you.

My goal is not to use technology to remove the human side of coaching. It is to let technology do what it does well so I have more time and information to do what I believe matters most:

coach the human.
